IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – Getting two goals apiece in the second and third period helped propel the Iroquois Falls Storm to a 4-2 triumph versus the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League meeting Saturday at Jus Jordan Arena.
The visiting Gold Miners opened the scoring past the midway mark of the first period when Jacob Lamoureux darted down the right wing, then cut across the ice, where he fired a shot from the left circle that beat Storm starter Brodie Haylock.
Moving to the middle frame, Iroquois Falls drew level near the five-minute mark of the session with Michael Leech stuffing in a loose puck laying to the left of Kirkland Lake goaltender Graydon Mole.
The hosts then took the lead at 15:11 as Andrew Scott flew down the right wing and went hard to the net where he tucked in his first NOJHL goal in impressive fashion.
Keeping it going in the first quarter of the third, the Storm’s Lucas Peever made it 3-1 as he swiped the puck off a Gold Miners’ defender, then moved in front and pumped a shot past the glove of Mole.
Lamoureux brought the guests back to within one with 9:21 to go as he added another on the evening by firing one in from the slot off a play generated by Joseph Bastien-Picard.
Charlie Crump then wrapped up the win for the Storm in the late going, with an empty netter, during a late power play, to round out the scoring.
The win helped Iroquois Falls raise their record to 9-25-0-1 and with the loss, Kirkland Lake fell to 7-22-3-1.
