Miners Nuggets & the Goal Scoring Goalie

The Kirkland Lake GoldMiners are off to a 3-1 start so far this season. Looks like Coach Ryan Wood has assembled a deep forward unit, with all four lines being dangerous offensively. Special teams have been a factor with Coach Sinky’s PP units cashing in on 40% of their opportunities & Coach Wood’s PK units frustrating opposing PP units. Goalie Coach Bryan Bertoncello has Jr A rookie Greg Brassard looking strong and confident.

Socially the club took part in the KL Gold Fun Day, a great time was had by all, and the guys manned the checkpoints for the KLWSPL Amazing Race around Kirkland Lake.

As is the norm in junior hockey circles, roster moves are being made as more players are released from higher levels and drop down. In the last week we have added a few newcomers to the 25 man roster.

Patrick Murphy, #16 from Gilbert, Arizona joined us last week, influenced by former Captain, Ashton Amaya. The 6’1″ 185, 2000 born forward, brings a combination speed, skill and grittiness that compliments the lineup.

Vince DeSanctis, #10, 2000 born from Queens, New York joined us for the Hearst game Sunday. The 6’0″ 180 lb rookie, is a skilled centerman who will also get in your face, he’s a New Yorker after all! Vinny will be a solid offensive contributor and add to the club’s strength down the middle.

Matais Salem, #27, a 99 born, 6’0″ 185lb defenceman has joined the group. The right-shooting Salem, from Brampton, brings a steady game and will chip in offensively.

Colin Cromie, #6, a 99 born, 5’9, 165lb forward, from Elgin, Illinois, has just joined the club, he plays an in your face game as well, plus he has offense in his game too, with 29 pts & 66 pims in 40 games with the last season.

Justin King, #2, a 99 born, right shooting 6’3″ 190 lb defenceman from Markham, has just joined the club as well. Justin is a draft pick of the Niagara Ice Dogs of the OHL. King’s game is offence, with 34 pts in 40 games in the NA3 a season ago.

Dawson Rodin, #1, a 20 year old, 6’4″ 230lb goaltender from Chilliwack, BC has just joined us this week. Not only did he sport a 1.96 GAA & .932 SV last season. He made headlines by scoring a goal!
