GALLERY: Snyder supplies winner against Crunch as Gold Miners run winning streak to 4

KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – Christian Snyder’s goal three minutes into the third period was the decider as the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners skated to their fourth Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League victory in succession Saturday as they got past the Cochrane Crunch 3-2 at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

After a scoreless opening period, Cochrane clicked on the power play at 4:25 of the second to go in front thanks to Seiji Marone’s first NOJHL tally.

The Gold Miners would tie it later in the frame as Patrick Murphy picked up his initial league marker at 12:37.

Kirkland Lake then took the lead late in the session as Max Newnam buried a Gregory Trudeau-Paquet feed during a man advantage opportunity.

Heading to the final frame, the Gold Miners kept coming and went up by a pair when Snyder supplied his second of the year at 3:12.

Cochrane inched closer at 11:35 when Austin Whelan connected for a shorthanded effort to bring the visitors to within one.

However, Kirkland Lake goalkeeper Gregory Brassard shut the door the rest of the way to help keep his club’s hot streak in tact.

The home side out shot the Crunch 44-29 on the night with Brassard picking up the win while Zach Wickson suffered the loss.
