NOJHL names its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Powassan Voodoos forward Cade Herd; Kirkland Lake Gold Miners goaltender Gregory Brassard and Blind River Beavers forward Brendan Young have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending Sept. 16.

CADE HERD, (F) POWASSAN VOODOOS – In two outings over the weekend, the 18-year-old North Cobalt, Ont., product registered five points helping Powassan remain unbeaten early in the campaign.

Herd began with three assists in a triumph over Hearst Friday and followed that up with a pair of tallies Saturday in a home ice victory over Cochrane.

Averaging two points-per-game early in 2018-19, the veteran NOJHLer also has points in 12 straight regular season contests dating back to last season, having amassed 10 goals and 13 assists during his run.

A veteran of 105 league games in his career, Herd requires just one more point to reach the 100-plateau.

GREGORY BRASSARD, (G) KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS – Brassard has been quick to make his mark in league play having gone 3-0 for the Gold Miners and presently leading all netminders in goals-against average at 1.33 while sitting second overall in save percentage at .944.

This past week the 19-year-old, who hails from South Glengarry, Ont., was on the winning end of both his starts.

In all he only allowed one goal on 35 attempts in victories over Timmins and Hearst, which included his first NOJHL shutout, which came Sunday afternoon against the Lumberjacks.

BRENDAN YOUNG, (F) BLIND RIVER BEAVERS – The 19-year-old from Lefroy, Ont., has started strong in league play notching goals in each of his first five games played in the NOJHL.

Young’s effort during the weekly time frame saw him score three times, in as many outings, and help set-up five others as Blind River went 2-1 overall to help them move on top in the West Division standings.

Heading into league play this week, he leads all NOJHL skaters in offensive production with 14 points on five markers and nine assists.
