KIRKLAND LAKE, ON – Tyson Wilcox made 31 saves and Zach Turner scored a pair of goals as the Powassan Voodoos cruised to a 5-0 win over the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners at the Joe Mavrinac Community Centre on Saturday night.
After a scoreless opening frame, the Voodoos opened the scoring after killing off 90 seconds of a 5 on 3, Cameron Lemcke was sprung on a breakaway and he ripped a low shot past Graydon Mole at the two-minute mark of the second period for his 15th of the season and a Voodoos 1-0 lead.
The Voodoos increased their lead on a partial breakaway by Zach Turner who made no mistake beating Mole stick side for a 2-0 lead at 8:20 of the second.
The Voodoos added to the lead early in the third, as Zach Turner notched his second of the game on a nice feed from behind the net as Colorado product’s one-timer ate up Miners goalie Mole at 1:36.
Then less than 4 minutes later, Mathieu McMillan drove the net and slid one past Mole that made it 4-0 Voodoos with helpers from linemates Chase Thompson and Reyth Smith.
Defenceman Carson Ricci made it 5-0 with a shot from the point at 16:45.
The win finished off an impressive road weekend for the Voodoos who netted back-to-back 5-0 wins against Espanola Friday and Kirkland Lake Saturday.
The Voodoos improve to 23-14-0-2 for their third straight win while the Gold Miners drop to 7-27-4-1 as they are now winless in their last nine (0-8-1).
