NOJHL approves relocation of Abitibi Eskimos to Timmins for 2015-16

SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League has announced its board of directors has unanimously approved the relocation of the Abitibi Eskimos franchise to Timmins in time for the 2015-16 season.

The announcement of the move was made Tuesday evening at a budget meeting of council in Timmins.

The NOJHL last hosted a team out of the community back during the 1998-99 campaign when the then Timmins Golden Bears competed in the league.

“We are confident that the City of Timmins is ready for the return of Junior A hockey and look forward to the new challenges ahead,” stated Eskimos president Marshall.

The NOJHL looks forward to continue working with the Eskimos organization in Iroquois Falls and as they begin their transition to their new home in 2015-16.

“The people of Iroquois Falls are to be commended for their steadfast support over the the years and for their dedicated commitment to their community,” added Mazzuca.

“We also look forward to working with the town of Timmins, and the organization, in seeing the return of Jr. A hockey to the town as they strive to become a successful and viable franchise in the NOJHL for decades to come.”
