KIRKLAND LAKE - The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners picked up a 3-2 double-overtime win against the Elliot Lake Bobcats Friday evening at The Joe.
The Miners came out flat and the Bobcats made the most of Kirkland Lake’s slow start with a goal just three-and-a-half minutes into the game.
The score stayed 1-0 for Elliot Lake until the Miners opened the second stanza with two early goals, the first by Francis Desforges with the assists going to Kyle Bishop and Everett Thompson and then the goal-ahead goal by Royce King. Jean-Michel Naud assisted on the shorthanded goal.
The score stayed in KL’s favour until the very last stages of the game when Elliot Lake scored to tie the game with just 23 second left on the clock so it was off to over time.
The first overtime solved nothing so it was off to round two and it was then when KL’s Naud scored to give his team the 3-2 win. Jordan Briand and Jeremy Picard-Fiset picked up assists on the winning goal.
