KIRKLAND LAKE - The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners take on the first-place Soo Thunderbirds Friday night at the Joe.
To this point the Miners have yet to score a win on the T-Birds but every game, including an overtime loss, has shown that Kirkland Lake can play with them.
According to Head Coach Marc Lafleur the team had a good week of practice and the players are upbeat.
Coach Lafleur stated he and his staff worked on a number of different elements with the players, including special teams and the offence.
He added they went over game tape and worked on some strategies so as to give them an even better opportunity to pull out the victory. He also stated that while the Soo is a tough team, all the teams in the league are tough to play against, its a matter of taking care of your own game.
Currently the Gold Miners sit solidly in third place with 25 points, five more than the Sudbury Barons. The Soo and North Bay currently sit atop the NOJHL leaderboard with 31 points each. The T-Birds have one more win than the Trapper.
The game at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex is set for the usual 7:30 puck drop.
