GoldMiners Complete US Sweep

The Kirkland Lake GoldMiners got a goal from Aiden Wagner at 3:14 of 3 on 3 Overtime, to down defending EHL Champion New Hampshire Avalanche 4-3, to complete a sweep of their 3 game tour through New England.

In as entertaining a game as we will likely see this season, both teams came out hard and fast, the older, bigger Avalanche at times tried to impose their will, but the Miners didn’t budge, but pushed back, with Hunter Foreshew opening the scoring, from his office at the top of the crease at 15:35 of the opening half, (they play 2, 25 min halves in tourneys and exhibition games) Greg Trudeau-Paquet & Josh Maine with the helpers. Eye-catching Jake Blackwell knotted it for the Avalanche, before Greg Trudeau-Paquet put the Miners out front 2-1 late 1st half from Aiden Wagner & Sam Ellwood. Dawson Rodin got the start and made 16 saves in the opening half.

Greg Brassard took over netminding duties for the 2nd half for the Miners, and made some big stops as the Avalanche pressured the Miners, eventually getting goals from Devin Pepe and Nick Ritmo, to take a 3-2 lead with just under 10 minutes to play. Josh Maine, got the game tying goal with 2:21 left in regulation.

3 on 3 overtime went back and forth, teams trading chances, before Aiden Wagner banged home a rebound, of a Trudeau-Paquet blast, past Avalanche netminder, Andrew LoRusso at 3:14 to complete the US sweep.

Earlier, Thursday, da Boyz defeated East Coast Wizards 4-1 on Day 1 of the EHL Showcase Series, then Friday, they downed Walpole Express 3-2. The Miners thank the Eastern Hockey League for allowing us to participate in their Showcase Series, in front of 75-100 NCAA scouts, we thank you for your hospitality, hopefully you will have us again.

As part of the excursion the club was treated to campus visits at Utica College, Trinity College, University of Connecticut & Southern New Hampshire University. The hospitality extended to the club by the Men’s Hockey Programs at each Institution was beyond reproach. An amazing experience for Coach Ryan Wood and Da Boyz!

The Christmas Break officially begins now for Da Boyz who wish each and every member of Miners Nation, a Very Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and all the Best in the New Year! We’ll see you January 4th at the Joe, when we host French River in the 1st game of 2019.

Cheers!
