Captain Renzoni Off To Ohio University

The Kirkland Lake Goldminers are pleased to report, Captain Lucas Renzoni, recently committed to Ohio University, in Athens, Ohio this fall. The 20 year old, 3 year NOJHL veteran, saw action in 111 games as a Goldminer, scoring 48 points in his career.

The 5’!0”, 175lb defenceman, another Everest Academy alumni, integrated himself into the Kirkland Lake community during his stay, becoming a fan and town favorite. Always quick to lend a hand for a cause, Renzoni even possibly looked into his future, helping out with the coaching in the Kirkland Lake Minor Hockey Association. He also found time, with teammate Camille Marcoux, to host a team podcast.

The Maple, Ontario resident holds dual Canadian/Italian citizenship, with a dream to be a part of the Italian National team program.

Renzoni joins a top flight program, the ACHA D-1 Ohio University Bobcats, coached by Lionel Mauron, who lost to Adrian College at the ACHA Nationals.

Renzoni would like to thank his parents and family for supporting him through this step of the journey, with “a huge thanks” to the Town of Kirkland Lake, the Miners Nation, the fans who made me feel at home from day one, and of course all my coaches along the way, especially Coach Kyle Smart and Tom Sinclair for their guidance, of course my teammates, “who made the day to day grind of Junior hockey a memorable experience, we’re friends for life”.

Coach Smart says “having Lucas was a pleasure, as a Captain, he was a great go-between, as a person, you won’t find a nicer, genuine kid!’
