KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – Timmins Rock defenceman Phil Caron scored twice, that included the game-winning goal on a late first period power play, and added an assist propelling his club to a 5-2 triumph over the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League East Division contest Friday at Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.
Caron began the night’s proceeding’s with his initial tally of the evening before the match-up was four minutes old.
It was more from the Rock at 7:39 when another blueliner, in Josh Anderson, found the back of the net.
Regrouping, Kirkland Lake struck twice in a 23-second span to knot the affair at 2-2 thanks to Cameron Neaylon and Casey Gerstein.
However, Caron connected once more before the frame was complete as he finished off a man advantage opportunity for the visitors.
After a scoreless middle session, Timmins tacked on two more in the third to help secure the road decision compliments of Brendan Boyce, at even strength, and Tyler Schwindt, via the power play, to round out the scoring.
Shots on goal in the meeting saw the Rock fire 48 attempts of Gold Miners starter Kohl Reddy while Vance Meyer made 17 saves to pick up the wins for Timmins.
The two teams will wrap up a weekend home-and-home Saturday in a 7 p.m. start at McIntyre Arena.
