TIMMINS, Ont. – A four-goal barrage, in a 15-minute span in the second period, broke open a tight game as the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League-leading Timmins Rock went on to notch the night’s final eight markers and take down the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 10-1 Saturday evening in front of 943 spectators at McIntyre Arena.

Timmins began the scoring 4:17 into the first period on Zach Smith’s fifth tally of the season.

Defenceman Phil Caron added to the Rock lead 18 and a half minutes into the frame only to see Patrick Murphy collect his first of the campaign for the Gold Miners at 19:35.

However, it was all Timmins after that as they erupted for four goals in the second stanza.

An Evan Beaudry even strength effort began the outburst at 2:42 before teammate Stewart Parnell picked up his 35th career tally, which came via the power play a couple of minutes later.

Not done there, Tyler Gilberds and Josh Dickson kept the Rock rolling as they carried a 6-1 cushion into the third period.

There they tacked on four more to finish off the one-sided result.

Riley Brousseau had two of the markers in the session while Caron scored once more and Brendan Boyce provided a single.

In all, nine different Rock skaters went on to produce multiple-point performances as they improved to 10-1 in their past 11 outings and a NOJHL-best 36-6-1-1 overall.

Tyler Masternak made 14 saves to get the win while Kirkland Lake netminder Kohl Reddy was pelted with 50 shots against in defeat.
