KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – The Iroquois Falls Storm rode some solid goaltending from Connor Hatfield to defeat the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 4-1 Saturday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League East Division get together at Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

The Storm got on the board first when Andre Cho dashed down the left wing and was given with plenty of room to fire a shot high into the top right-hand corner on Gold Miners’ starter Trent Boryszczuk just over nine minutes in.

Iroquois Falls then got one more right after that as Lucas Peever was left alone in front where he steered in a cross-ice pass from Landon Trethewey.

An injured Boryszczuk gave way to back-up Caleb Shuker half way through the first, who went the rest of the way for the home side.

Going up by three during a man advantage in the middle frame, Max Jugnauth, parked in front, tipped in a Cho attempt from the left circle.

Kirkland Lake got one back at 11:06 when Luca Maiuri put one through Storm netminder Hatfield with a wrist shot while skating down the left side.

In the third though, Ben Sherwin of the Storm helped put the game away by ripping in a shot from between the hash marks, during a power play, with 6:24 to go.

The win sees Iroquois Falls improve to 11-27-0-1 and with the setback, Kirkland Lake sinks to 7-25-4-1.
