KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners scored twice on the power play with under five minutes left in regulation to help them pull out an eventual 4-4 double overtime draw with the Timmins Rock Friday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.
In all each side would connect three times on the power play with Timmins’ first three tallies coming on the man advantage as were Kirkland Lake’s final three.
The visiting Rock picked up the lone tally in the first period compliments of a Derek Seguin effort at 6:18.
Timmins then went up 2-0 early in second on a Connor Losen extra-man goal before William Mizuik got the home team on the board at 7:44.
Heading into the third Seth Reuben scored 21 seconds in while Jared Hester added another for the Rock at 4:16 to make it 4-2 Timmins.
Battling back the Gold Miners pulled to within one during a two-man advantage thanks to Mizuik and then Marshal Nikitin tied it with four minutes to go while still on the power play.
The remainder of the match-up was scoreless including both five-minute OT sessions with both squads earning a point on the night.
Cade McEwen made 34 stops in the Kirkland Lake net and Eric Jackson had 24 saves for Timmins.
Alex Brisson and Wayne Mathieu of the Rock as well as Gabriel Rheault and Vito Sica of the Gold Miners had two assists each on the night.
