TIMMINS, Ont. – The Timmins Rock saw their captain Derek Sequin pickup the lone tally in the shootout as they held off a Kirkland Lake Gold Miners comeback bid to win 4-3 Friday in front of 918 spectators in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at McIntyre Arena.

First period action saw the hometown Rock notch the lone tally in the frame thanks to Riley Robitaille’s eighth of the campaign.

Timmins then went up by a pair at 17:25 of the second stanza when Gregory Arnburg picked up his initial NOJHL goal.

Kirkland Lake did get that back though just 45 seconds later on Colin Cromie’s fourth to make it 2-1 through two.

Heading to the final frame, Rock added to their lead early on thanks to Carson Burlington, who collected his second for his club.

Battling back, the Gold Miners moved to within one once more on Aiden Wagner’s 10th, which came at 6:12.

Then with a late power play, Kirkland Lake tied things up with 3:42 left in regulation on Sam Ellwood’s 10th to force overtime.

After a scoreless five-minute OT, extra shots were needed to decide things where Seguin’s marker was the difference maker to give Timmins the additional point on the evening.

Linden Spencer dished out a pair of assists to aid the Rock cause.

Shots on goal saw Tyler Masternak made 26 stops, along with all three he faced in the shootout, to register his NOJHL-leading 23rd triumph of 2018-19.

Gold Miners’ Dawson Rodin faced 31 attempts in the setback for the guests with his efforts helping his team earn a point.
