NOJHL names its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Soo Thunderbirds’ forward Lucas Theriault, Timmins Rock goaltender Tyler Masternak and Kirkland Lake Gold Miners’ forward Gregory Trudeau-Paquet have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending Sept. 30.

LUCAS THERIAULT, (F) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – Continuing to impress for surging Sault Ste. Marie, Theriault played a pivotal role offensively helping the Thunderbirds earn triumphs over a pair of division rivals.

Skating for his hometown team, the 18-year-old had assists on all three of his club’s goals Friday as the Soo rallied for a 3-2 overtime win vs. Rayside-Balfour.

He then notched the game-winning marker Saturday as the Thunderbirds won 2-1 at the Soo Eagles.

Averaging a co-league-best two points-per-game, Theriault presently sits third in NOJHL scoring.

He has produced 14 points in total, after seven outings, which have all been wins by his club.

TYLER MASTERNAK, (G) TIMMINS ROCK – In three appearances last week the 18-year-old Oshawa, Ont., product won both his starts and produced a 1.86 goals-against average along with a .929 save percentage during the time frame.

Masternak began with 22 stops in 40 minutes of relief and had a no decision in a road setback at Kirkland Lake before allowing only one goal against in each of his two victories, over Cochrane and French River.

In his past four times in net he sports a 2-0-1 record for the Rock.

GREGORY TRUDEAU-PAQUET, (F) KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS – A six-point run in two games for Trudeau-Paquet helped him move into the Top 10 in league scoring while also aiding in improving the Gold Miners’ fortunes.

The Kirkland Lake forward scored twice, including the game-winner, and helped set-up two more markers in a home ice decision over Timmins this past Wednesday as his squad had won for a fifth consecutive time.
He then had another goal and doled out his 50th career assist in a narrow road loss at Hearst Sunday.

A veteran of 86 NOJHL contests, Trudeau-Paquet is just three points shy of the century mark, which includes having tallied 47 times.
