Miners Wrap Up 1st Week Of Camp

Coach Kyle Smart and the Goldminers have wrapped up their first week of training Camp, concentrating on Skills Development.

Coach Smart welcomed 22 players to town along with a trio of affiliated players. Even split among newcomers and returnees, with Jr vets Connor Van Weelie, Camille Marcoux, Robert McLaughlin, Casey Gerstein, Kyler Campbell & Jacob Hiltz leading the forward group with newcomers Dakota Seaman & Gabriel Davis, added from the Cochrane Crunch, Logan Gallager ex of Elliot Lake & Blind River, Matt King from the Aurora Tigers, OJHL, along with Mathieu Morin & Mark Quesnel.

The defence group is led by returnees Seth Coulter, Lucas Renzoni, Spencer Jones & Ian McDonald, joined by NOJHL vets Jackson Grozelle & Curtis Gervais both with Elliot Lake last season & youngster Michael Sulmona.

Netminders in camp include vet Kohl Reddy and a pair of newcomers, Zach Reddy and Glen Crandall. The Reddy brothers, although dual citizens, reside in the USA, thus are serving their 14 day quarantine period, affiliated player Thomas Armstrong has filled one of the nets capably, in the Reddys’ absence.

Coach Smart says he’s pleased overall with what he has seen so far as the newcomers and returnees are meshing into a unit. Smart says “next week we’ll hammer away at fitness and conditioning with an eye to seeing some sort of exhibition action next weekend, we hope”. We are adjusting to the new protocols in place and “we feel we’ll be ready to face somebody real soon.”
