Kirkland Lake GoldMiners Coach & GM Kyle Smart continues to shape his roster for the new season, adding some local flavor, signing Ian McDonald. The 18 year old defenceman from Englehart, saw action as an AP with the Miners last season, getting in 7 regular season games along with one playoff game.
The 6’2” 185 lb steady defender spent the past 3 seasons in the GNML, with the New Liskeard Cubs, under Coach Steven Polyblank, appearing in a total of 111 games.
Coach Smart says, ” Ian showed us last season that he’s ready to take that next step in his hockey journey, he’s got good instincts and a great work ethic, just what a coach looks for.”
Ian joins a veteran GoldMiners defence group, that should be a strength of the club this season.
