KIRKLAND LAKE - The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners lost 6-2 to the Soo Thunderbirds Friday night in NOJHL action.
The Soo opened the scoring just over nine minutes into the game and the score stayed 1-0 through the rest of the period.
In the second stanza the T-Birds opened the game up with two more goals, one just under five minutes into the period and the second with just over four minutes left.
In the third period the Miners found some offence when Team Co-Captain Connor McNally scored less than a minute in. The assists on the play went to Jean Francois Sylvestre and Jordon Briand.
Halfway through the period the Soo collected two more tallies to make it a 5-1 game, but the Miners, to their credit got one back when Francis Desforges scored to make it 5-2. Kyle Bishop and Jacob Kenney picked up the assists on the play. The T-Birds scored one more with three minutes left in regulation to make it a 6-2 final. After the game Head Coach Marc Lafleur stated the loss was due to a lack of execution both offensively and defensively.
“We were playing a good team but at the same time some of us didn’t have our “A” game and it really hurt us tonight.”
“Our third guy wasn’t high enough and we got caught on odd man rushes because of it. Our defence was also flat-footed at times.”
