Miners Acquire 2 Markham Royals for Ellwood

Kirkland Lake GoldMiners Coach & GM Ryan Wood has dealt 19 yr old forward, Sam Ellwood to the Markham Royals of the OJHL.

In return, heading north are 20 yr old forward James Scott, from Victoria, B.C. along with 18 yr old Toronto born forward, Sam Marit.

Ellwood who had 31 points in 56 games last season, according to Coach Wood, had requested a trade back to the OJHL.

Coach Wood says the two newcomers will fit in nicely into our lineup, with James Scott, a 5’11” 180 left winger who had 31 pts in 48 games with Victoria Cougars in the VIJHL 2 seasons ago, last season Scott got into 16 games with the Markham Royals. Coach Wood says, “this is a veteran Jr hockey player that should fit in well at the top end of our lineup, we look for James to be a very productive player in this league.”

Sam Marit is an 18 yr old 5’10 175 right winger entering his 3rd Jr A season, 2 years ago, Sam was with Dryden Ice Dogs in the SIJHL, where he put 16 pts on the board in 35 games. Last season, Sam saw limited ice time on a veteran Markham Royals club in the OJHL. Coach Wood says, “this is a talented young man with over 80 Jr A games of experience, we feel given a bigger role and opportunity Sam will shine in the NOJHL.”
