James Scott Is NCAA Bound

James Scott, another member of the 2018-19 Kirkland Lake GoldMiners will further his education and hockey career south of the border, committing to Lawrence University, in Appleton, Wisconsin.

The 21 year old Scott, a Victoria, B.C. native joined the GoldMiners last season, after a stint in the OJHL, and immediately made himself a valuable member, due to his versatility. Though he came in as a forward, when the need arose, drew upon his prior experience as a defenceman, and never missed a beat. Scott at various times played on all 4 forward lines and a top 4 dman.

Scott says the recruiting process was interesting, in that it all came together quickly, “they contacted me when our season ended and our conversations just felt right.” After a campus visit, “I realized that this was the place for me.”

Scott adds,”it is great campus, in a strong conference NCHA D-III, that is building their hockey program”. Scott feels there will be ample opportunities to crack the lineup and gain playing time early on. Coach Mike Szkodzinski and his staff are looking to make major strides this season, “I am looking forward to it.”

Academically, Scott plans on a major in Political Science with a minor in Economics.

Scott says he’d love to thank “my family, of course, for their support over the years, coaches, for their guidance and encouragement and especially my team-mates who made last season such an important one.”

“I enjoyed my time in Kirkland Lake and can’t wait to get started with the LU Vikings!”

Former GoldMiner Taylor Urch, is a member of the Vikings along with a couple of former Soo Eagles.
