GoldMiners Request LOA for Balance of Season

Kirkland Lake Goldminers Junior Hockey Club NEWS RELEASE
February 22nd, 2021 – For Immediate Release Kirkland Lake :

The Kirkland Lake Goldminers Junior A Hockey Club announced today that they
have taken a Leave of Absence for the remainder of the 2020-2021 Northern Ontario Junior
Hockey League (NOJHL) season due to the continuing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Club President Steve Cox stated “This was not an easy decision by the Board of Directors but
there is simply too much uncertainty regarding the relaxing of Public Health Unit guidelines
which would allow us to travel to play other teams in Northern Ontario and given the existing
Cohort regulations, we would be unable to hang on for another 28 days minimum before we
could actually even start to plan to get into game play. We still remain committed to the NOJHL
and to having a strong, competitive Goldminer team ready to hit the ice for the 2021-2022
season.”
As restrictions are eased the Board will look at implementing a plan to recruit players, attract
new and existing sponsors and update fans on when they can expect to be back in the arena.
Added Cox “The safety of our players, billet parents and of our fans is paramount. We cannot
put them in a position where they might be exposed to COVID-19, or any other danger. We
believe we are doing the responsible thing to ensure the long-term viability of the Goldminers in Kirkland Lake.
