KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – Timmins Rock defenceman Bode Dunford had a personal single-game high three points, on a pair of tallies and an assist, to help propel his side to a 6-2 decision over the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up Friday at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.
Timmins tacked on the night’s opening tally as they converted on the power play midway through the session as Nolan Ring notched his first NOJHL goal by banging in a rebound in the slot off a Tyler Schwindt attempt from the left side.
Coming right back though, the Gold Miners drew level on the next shift with Nicklas Albrecht scoring in his opening contest with the club since joining them earlier in the week, following a transaction from the Blind River Beavers, as he split the defence and picked the right hand corner on Rock netminder Gavin McCarthy.
However, the visitors were quick to pick up another man advantage and capitalized as Schwindt fed Dunford up high, who in turn snapped one through a maze that eluded Kirkland Lake starter Nicolas Alvarez to put the guests back on top.
In the second, Timmins converted on the power play once again, nearly five minutes in, thanks to Riley Brousseau making a nice play by moving to the middle with a fake and snapping a shot that beat Alvarez.
The home side’s Ryan Evenhuis then snagged a clearing attempt in the high slot before making a couple of crafty moves and firing one past McCarthy.
However, the Rock came right back off the draw and saw Liam Wells bang one in from the left side to put them up 4-2.
Adding to their edge, Dunford collected his second on the power play to extend the cushion on a night where the visitors had four man advantage markers.
They then put the game away in the late going as Dylan McElhinney collected his first in the NOJHL to round out the scoring.
Shots on goal finished up 48-25 in favour of the Rock with McCarthy getting the win while Alvarez suffered the defeat.
