KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – The Greater Sudbury Cubs scored eight times, while goaltender Noah Beaulne posted the first Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League shutout of the season, as part of an 8-0 decision over the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners Friday at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

The NOJHL front-running Cubs took early control of the contest, snagging a 3-0 cushion before the match-up was 11 minutes old.

Samuel Assinewai began the barrage at 1:53 as he cycled into the right circle and wired an attempt past Gold Miners’ netminder Nolan Nicoll.

Adding another before the midway point of the session, Greater Sudbury’s Lucas Signoretti hammered a one-timer off a cross-ice pass from Mason Chitaroni that hit off the Kirkland Lake goaltender and spun into the net.

Continuing to press, Eidan Macartney made it 3-0 deep into a power play as he finished off a feed from behind the net by Assinewai, while parked in front.

Opting for change between the pipes after that, Kael Moberg entered for the home side.

Moving to the middle frame, the Cubs continued to press and tacked on two more to go up by five early on.

Their fourth saw Cameron Shanks stuff in a loose puck laying in the crease before Noah Kohan went in alone on a breakaway and snapped a shot over the blocker of Moberg.

Shanks then shovelled in a back hand with bodies battling in front off an attempt from the right point by Chitaroni.

Heading to the third period, Signoretti notched two more, finishing off odd-man rushes with Ben Harris and Assinewai to hit his hat trick and raise his league-leading tally total to 11.

The one-sided result sees the Cubs improve to 8-1-1-1 while the Gold Miners dropped to 0-5-0-2 with the loss.
