GALLERY: Brassard posts shutout as Gold Miners win 3rd straight with decision over Hearst

KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – The surging Kirkland Lake Gold Miners picked up an 18-save shutout from Gregory Brassard to help them win their third straight Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest, a 3-0 decision over the Hearst Lumberjacks, Sunday afternoon at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

Catching a Hearst side on the final game of a three-game weekend road trip, the Gold Miners came out quickly and grabbed a two-goal cushion in the opening frame on markers by Austin Caza at even strength at 3:33 followed by a James Scott man advantage effort midway through the frame.

Kirkland Lake upped their lead late in the second stanza as Scott notched another to give him three early in the campaign.

Brassard and his teammates did the rest to secure the decision with the three-game win streak marking the first time the club has accomplished that feat since December of 2017.

Jaren DeBolt picked up assists on both of Scott’s tallies to aid the cause.

Nicholas Tallarico made 30 saves on 33 attempts for Hearst.

Hunter Foreshew , who was tremendous on the PK was named the 3rd Star.

Greg Brassard, with 18 saves, logged his 1st Jr A shutout, earned 2nd Star honours.

And James Scott, was a force all over the ice and scored his 2nd & 3rd goals of the season, was named the game’s 1st Star.

The boys will get a solid week of practice before the next test, Saturday night at 7, when the Cochrane Crunch visit the Joe.
