POWASSAN, Ont. – Powassan Voodoos goaltender Alex Bugeja registered his third shutout of the season Friday in backstopping his club to a 4-0 victory over the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play Friday at the Powassan Sportsplex.
It was scoreless until late in the opening 20 minutes when the Voodoos’ put a puck on net off a face-off that Kirkland Lake goaltender Zachary Reddy could not keep in front of him, which allowed Chase MacQueen-Spence to swoop and deposit his 11th of the season into the open cage.
Heading to the second stanza, Powassan struck shorthanded early as Jacob Dupont won a race down the right side and promptly whipped one upstairs at 2:15.
The Voodoos added another off a rush up ice that was completed by Alex Little who calmly tucked one in from close range.
Helping put the game out of reach in the third was Justin Spurrell as he drove to the middle of the ice and sizzled one past Reddy from the high slot at 6:41.
Bugeja did the rest to move into a tie for the league-lead in shutouts this season with three.
