TIMMINS, Ont. – The Timmins Rock needed a Karter Renouf goal with 12:49 remaining in regulation to lift them to a hard-fought 4-3 decision over the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners Friday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter in front of 815 spectators at McIntyre Arena.
Having only been held off the score sheet once in his first 10 league games, Timmins’ David Laroche continued his offensive production as he scored 3:34 into the match-up.
The Rock added to their lead near the similar point of the second stanza with Owen Shier supplying his fourth of the campaign.
Kirkland Lake did cut into the deficit at 11:44 off the stick of Max Newnam as the visitors got on the board.
The Gold Miners then drew level four minutes after that as Caleb Thompson collected the equalizer.
After Josh Dickson put the home side back in front at 18:13, Kirkland Lake came right back to knot the affair just 42 seconds later off the stick Camille Marcoux to level the proceedings once more.
Action in the final session saw Timmins out shoot their opponents 19-11 and were rewarded with Renouf’s game-winner to secure the victory.
Shots on net saw the Rock hold an overall edge of 43-26 with Vance Meyer picking up the victory while Kohl Reddy suffer the defeat.
