GALLERY: Timmins stays hot with road win in Kirkland Lake

KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – Staying unbeaten in regulation play so far this season, the Timmins Rock improved to 9-0-1-0 on the season as they topped the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 4-1 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up Wednesday at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

The league-leading Rock got things going midway through the first period as Henry Brock stuffed one in from during a goal-mouth scramble in front of Kirkland Lake starter Zachary Reddy.

Timmins added to their lead late in the session as recently acquired Nicholas Frederick was sent on a partial breakdown the left side where he skated in and ripped a shot past Reddy to put the visitors up by a pair after one.

In the second, another new member of the Rock line-up made it 3-0 as Eric Barnard bagged his first league marker at 18:34 by whipping one in from the left wing.

Getting on the board early in the third, the Gold Miners’ Spencer Jones hammered one from the point off a faceoff win that flew past Timmins’ Gavin McCarthy.

The visitors added some insurance in the back half of the final frame on a two-on-one was initially broken up before Tyler Schwindt got it over to Frederick to shovel in his second of the night, which proved to be the evening’s final marker.

Shots on goal finished up 42-35 in Timmins’ favour with McCarthy getting the win while Reddy was saddled with the setback.
