KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – Jacob Brown was credited with his first Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League shutout Saturday as the Timmins Rock defeated the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 2-0 in a tightly-contested East Division match-up at Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.
After taking the opening end of the home-and-home Friday, the visiting Rock needed just 90 seconds to strike in the rematch, thanks to a Nicholas Frederick effort.
Both sides settled in from there as the rest of the first period went without another tally.
Holding their 1-0 edge into the middle stanza, Timmins tacked on another in the back half of the frame when Brady Harroun chipped the puck over to Daniel Beaupre, which allowed him to dash over the blueline and rip a rising shot into the upper corner of the net.
Neither Brown, nor the Gold Miners’ netminder Braydon Garnhart would let a shot to get past them the rest of the way before time expired as the Rock skated away with the low-scoring victory.
