KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – Daniel Beaupre tallied twice while Gavin McCarthy turned aside 19 shots to post his first shutout of the season as the Timmins Rock blanked the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 5-0 Thursday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.
Prior to the start of the contest, the host Gold Miners, sporting Royal Canadian Legion jerseys, held a Remembrance Day ceremony in recognition of those men and women who served, or are currently serving in the Canadian military.
With play getting under way, Timmins collected the lone marker of the opening 20 minutes off a point shot from Felix Cadieux-Fredette that was stopped by Kirkland Lake goaltender Zachary Reddy, but the rebound went right to Riley Brousseau who slid in his seventh of the season while parked to the left of the net.
In the middle session, the Rock extended their lead at 11:38 as they clicked on the power play with Tyler Patterson neatly deflecting in a Cameron Dutkiewicz attempt from mid-ice, just inside the blueline.
They then tacked on another late in the second as Beaupre made a nifty move on a Kirkland Lake defender before darting into the zone and burying one from slot for his first NOJHL goal at 19:55.
Third period play saw Timmis add another 54 seconds in with Henry Brock going high blocker side on Reddy with a wrister from the top of the circle.
Beaupre then struck on a shorthanded breakaway for the Rock to help put the game away at 6:49 and round out the night’s scoring.
McCarthy collected his league-leading 10th win of the season while Reddy faced 39 attempts against in defeat.
