Siau shines in season debut as French River drops Kirkland Lake

KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – Levi Siau scored twice and dished out a pair of assists in his season debut as the French River Rapids went on to a 7-5 triumph over the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League get together at Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

A solid start did get the Gold Miners going early as they skated out to a 2-0 lead before the match-up was three and a half minutes old on markers from Cameron Neaylon and Kyler Campbell.

French River cut into the deficit at 6:38 when Ty Chambers picked up his eighth of the year.

The Rapids then tied it latter portion in the period with Connor Loft supplying the equalizer while his squad was up a skater.

Moving to the middle session, French River kept coming and tacked on five more markers with Siau supplying his pair sandwiched around a couple of man advantage markers off the stick of Will Frustaglio and a late even strength effort courtesy of Esa Patton to put them up 7-2 after 40 minutes with his club’s fifth extra man marker of the night.

Finding their stride in the third, Kirkland Lake made a game of it by getting a trio of tallies.

A.J, Campbell began the outburst with a shorthanded effort at 2:59 before Max Newnam provided his eighth goal of the year a couple of shifts later.

Seth Coulter added one more for the Gold Miners with four minutes left as he converted on the power play, but the guests held on from there to secure the road victory.

Rapids netminder Sebastian Woods made 40 saves to record the win.

Kyle McNair started for Kirkland Lake and gave up four on 13 attempts while Kohl Reddy suffered the loss in relief, giving up three on 17 chances.
