Shankar strikes in 2nd OT as Rock edge Gold Miners

TIMMINS, Ont. – A Jacob Shankar goal 1:48 into the second overtime was the decider as the Timmins Rock edged the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 3-2 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at McIntyre Arena.

Timmins also tallied first on this night when Jordan Rendle collected his 21st of the season 3:01 into the contest.

Kirkland Lake got that back at the eight-minute mark of the frame compliments of a Marshal Nikitin man advantage effort.

Bain Cunningham put the Rock up 2-1 after two while the Gold Miners’ Ashton Amaya forced OT with 2:18 remaining in regulation.

Skating four aside in the first extra session solved nothing so they headed to OT No. 2 at three skaters aside.

It was there that Shankar won it for Timmins as he beat Kirkland Lake goaltender Allan Menary with his team’s 45 shot of the night to end it.

Al Rogers made 34 saves to earn the win in net for the Rock with Menary’s 42 stops helping the Gold Miners pick up a point in defeat.
