Rodin Commits to Marian University

The Kirkland Lake GoldMiners are thrilled to announce, 21 year old Dawson Rodin has committed to Marian University, NCHA NCAA D-III, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

The 6’5″, Chilliwack, BC netminder came to the GoldMiners for his final season of Junior hockey, and put quite a season together, appearing in 34 games while posting a 2.37 gaa, .937 save percentage, plus 4 shutouts. Dawson’s efforts were rewarded, with him being named the Wayne Chase Memorial Award Winner, for the NOJHL’s best Goals Against Average.

Dawson admits the recruiting process was “stressful, trying to find the right match, from a hockey and academic point of view.” The Sports and Recreation Management program at Marian University, “was a big selling point'” Dawson says , as that is the direction he wants to go in, post graduation.

The Marian University Sabres, under Coach Zach Gaynor have been a perennial D-III upper echelon program the past 15 years, and Dawson is looking forward to joining a program with a winning tradition and culture. Additionally he’ll see a familiar face or 2 in the locker room, from his BC and Utah days. Academically, Dawson plans on pursuing a double-major, Business Management and Sports and Recreation Management.

Dawson would love to thank everyone involved in the journey, from “my family, who’ve been there every step of the way,” with special thanks to GoldMiners veteran Assistant coach Tom Sinclair, “for all the work he did in helping me prepare for University, and giving me an inside look at what I need to have in choosing a program.”  Also,”thanks to the Brousseau’s, my billet family in KL and of course my Boyz, a special group of team-mates, who meant everything to me this year”.

“I can’t wait to start my 4 years at Marian! Go Sabres!”

Miners Nation, we wish Dawson all the best in the next chapter of his excellent adventure!

As the crowd chants…..”Dawson is Awesome!…Dawson is Awesome!….”
