KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – The Powassan Voodoos recorded their 125th Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League regular season victory in franchise history Saturday evening by edging the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 3-2 in overtime at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.
Powassan picked up the lone tally of the opening frame 16:13 into the contest as Ryan Theriault picked up his ninth goal of the season.
Kirkland Lake was quick to capitalize in the middle frame getting the equalizer 2:56 in with Declan Caret collecting his fifth of the campaign to knot the affair at 1-1.
The Voodoos went back on top before the second was complete as Tyson Gilmour ran a point streak to eight games in succession as he notched his 13th goal at 13:42.
Tyler Fyfe’s 20th drew the Gold Miners level once more with 5:51 remaining in regulation to help send the game to OT.
In the first extra session Harrison Israels was the hero for Powassan as he buried the game-winner at 3:11 as the rookie forward’s 22nd tally of the season won it for the visitors.
Christian Cicigoi made 18 stops to record the victory for the Voodoos while Cade McEwen faced 31 attempts in defeat helping Kirkland Lake earn a point.
