Osborne; Eskis stun Gold Miners late

IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – David Osborne scored three times with under six minutes to go as the Iroquois Falls Eskis stunned the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners with five third period goals en route to a 7-5 victory Saturday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at Jus Jordan Arena.

Kirkland Lake came out quickly in the contest as the visitors grabbed a 2-0 lead before it was four minutes old on Liam Watson’s first NOJHL marker and Marshal Nikitin’s third.

Alex Mitsionis got one back from Iroquois Falls at 7:44 to make it a 2-1 score after one period of play.

The Gold Miners restored their two-goal cushion 5:40 into the second as Kevin Ford collected his 15th of the campaign.

Mitsionis and Nikitin then traded power play markers later in the session as the visitors carried a 4-2 edge into the third.

Action in the final frame saw Shadow Reuben of the Eskis and Tyler Fyfe of the Gold Miners notch man advantage efforts with Kirkland Lake carrying a 5-3 score into the latter stages of the session.

Osborne started the comeback at 14:09 then added another three minutes later to knot it at 5-5.

Taking advantage of a late power play, Osborne finished off a natural hat trick and he buried the game-winner with 37 seconds to go in regulation.

Mitsionis meanwhile completed a three-goal night of his own with an empty netter at 19:54 to finish off the big comeback by the home side.

Josh Dejulio also played a big role in the Eskis rally as he dished five assists in the triumph while Reuben had a couple helpers of his own.

Fyfe, Austin Ramirez and T.J. Oricchio had two assists each for the Gold Miners.

Shots on net were 33-32 in favour of Iroquois Falls with Artem Bortovskiy picking up the win and Victor-Olivier Courchesne the loss.
