NOJHL names its final regular season Eastlink 3 Stars
Thunderbirds’ Senecal; Voodoos’ Theriault; Gold Miners’ Fyfe earn the honours

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced today its final Eastlink TV 3 Stars for the 2016-17 regular season.

Earning the accolades for the time frame, which included the last 10 days of the season slate, are forwards Zach Senecal of the Soo Thunderbirds, Ryan Theriault of the Powassan Voodoos and Tyler Fyfe of the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners.

ZACH SENECAL, (F) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – Suiting up the final four games for the surging Thunderbirds, Senecal produced points in all of them, collecting nine in total, helping Sault Ste. Marie run their impressive winning streak to 12 in the process as well as wrapping up the regular season unbeaten in 16 with 15 victories and a double overtime tie.

The 19-year-old began with a goal and two assists for his hometown side in a triumph over Rayside-Balfour back on Feb. 28.

Next up was a two-tally performance on March 3 vs. the rival Soo Eagles.

One night later Senecal tacked on two more markers and helped set-up another in another T-Birds win against the Eagles.

He then wrapped up the campaign with an assist in a decision over the Canadians March 5.

Senecal finished the season leading the Thunderbirds in goals with 33 and second in points with 60.

His six game-winning efforts tied for the club lead.

RYAN THERIAULT, (F) POWASSAN VOODOOS – A five-game run during the last 10 days of the NOJHL slate saw the 19-year-old Hanmer, Ont., native etch his name on the scoresheet in each of them as league-leading Powassan went 4-0-1-0 overall.

Theriault started off by scoring once and doling out three assists in a win over Iroquois Falls Feb. 27.

Next up was another goal in an overtime setback at Cochrane March 3 before tallying in a third straight contest and chipping in with a helper the following evening in a road decision over the Eskis.

The Voodoos forward then scored for a fourth game in row as Powassan came away victorious at Timmins before he completed his efforts with an assist at French River on the final night of the campaign.

Theriault concluded the regular season averaging a point-per-game for the Voodoos, with 54 in as many outings on 18 tallies and 36 helpers.

TYLER FYFE, (F) KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS – A pair of solid efforts in the Gold Miners last two regular season match-ups saw Fyfe pickup six points along the way.

The 19-year-old Cloverdale, B.C., product provided a goal and an assist in an exciting 5-5 double OT draw vs. Timmins on March 2.

Fyfe then chipped in with another tally and dished out a trio of helpers as Kirkland Lake skated to a home win over French River at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

With points in four straight as well as in eight of his previous nine, Fyfe concluded the campaign with 68 overall on 28 markers and 40 assists.

He also notched the game-winning goal Friday in the Gold Miners Game 1 East Division quarter-final decision over Iroquois Falls.
