NOJHL announces Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week
SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Soo Thunderbirds forward Jaren Bellini, Mattawa Blackhawks defenceman Nick Grose and Kirkland Lake Gold Miners goaltender Josh Erickson have been named the Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the week for the period concluding Oct. 12.
JAREN BELLINI, (F) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – In two games last week the 18-year-old Sault Ste. Marie product had multiple-points in each of them helping the Thunderbirds extend a season-high winning streak to six.
Bellini began by tallying twice in a 4-3 overtime triumph over Blind River Wednesday.
Two nights later the Soo forward had another goal and set-up two others, including the winner in the second OT, as the T-Birds pulled out a 5-4 decision over Abitibi in extra time.
Bellini is currently second in team offensive production with 14 points in 10 games played.
NICK GROSE, (D) MATTAWA BLACKHAWKS – Stepping up in a big way in his club’s lone contest of the week the 19-year-old blueliner, who calls Fairfax, Virginia home, had a big day offensively helping Mattawa skate to their first-ever NOJHL victory Sunday afternoon.
Grose dished out five assists in that contest as the Blackhawks bested the Powassan Voodoos by an 8-5 count at Mike Rodden Arena.
His seven overall assists lead all defencemen on his team.
JOSH ERICKSON, (G) KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS – Making his Gold Miners debut over the weekend, the 20-year-old Erickson was solid helping Kirkland Lake sweep a home-and-home vs. Cochrane.
The newly acquired netminder, who hails from Woodbury, Minn., made 35 stops in a 5-2 victory over the Crunch Friday in Cochrane.
One night later he added another 24 saves helping the defending NOJHL champion Gold Miners pull out a 4-3 triumph at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.
