KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – The Greater Sudbury Cubs saw Pierson Sobush tally twice and goaltender Noah Metivier turn aside every shot fired his way, for his fourth shutout of the season, as part of a 4-0 win over the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners Friday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest at Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

Greater Sudbury got going offensively early, staking themselves to a 2-0 lead before the proceedings were eight minutes in.

Nolan Newton notched the first one for the Cubs at 5:10 as he burst through a trio of defenders before managing to jam one through Kirkland Lake starter Ethan Barron.

A couple of shifts later, Oliver Smith extended the visitors lead by collecting his 17th of the season as he quickly buried a rebound off a Sobush shot.

Carrying their cushion into the middle stanza, Sobush converted in the latter stages of the session as he notched his 40th of the season, by chipping one through Barron from a sharp angle.

Sobush then tacked on another in the final minute and was left with plenty of time to convert after being set-up via a Samuel Assinewai cross-ice feed.

In the third, the Metivier and the Cubs held firm defensively to secure the road victory and improve to 42-10-2-0 on the campign.

In defeat the 12th-place overall Gold Miners fell to 5-45-1-1.
