NOJHL announces Gongshow Gear players of the month

SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Wednesday its respective Gongshow Gear Inc., player, defenceman, goaltender and rookie of the month for November.

KirklandLake-Tyler_Mazzocato_#1_HeadshotGONGSHOW GEAR GOALTENDER OF THE MONTH – TYLER MAZZOCATO, KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS: Despite suffering his first league defeat in his last start, the 17-year-old Gold Miners netminder has shone brightly for his hometown Kirkland Lake side.

Mazzocato went 5-1 last month in six starts and posted a 2.67 goals-against average along with a .897 save percentage.

He also registered his first NOJHL shutout on Nov. 27.

The Gold Miners stopper currently leads all active league goalkeepers in average at 2.33 and sits fifth in save percentage at .912 with a solid 9-1-0-1 overall record.

Rayside-BalfourCanadians-No.19-RyanEricksonHeadShotGONGSHOW GEAR PLAYER OF THE MONTH – RYAN ERICKSON, (F) RAYSIDE-BALFOUR CANADIANS: The month of November was an impressive one for the 20-year-old Sudbury native as he averaged just over three points-per-game amassing a total of 28 in nine outings for the Canadians.

Erickson scored 13 times, of which three were game-winners, and doled out 15 assists helping Rayside-Balfour go 8-1 in the time frame.

His month also saw him register points in eight of nine games played with seven of those match-ups being multi-point affairs.

Currently sporting a five-game point streak Erickson has moved all the way up to second spot in the NOJHL scoring race with 48 points on 19 goals and 29 assists in 22 contests.

His four game-winning tallies also tie him for third overall in the league in that department.

SooThunderbirdsNo.21.CalebBomanGONGSHOW GEAR DEFENCEMAN OF THE MONTH – CALEB BOMAN, SOO THUNDERBIRDS: Last month was certainly a memorable one for the 18-year-old Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. product.

He took to the ice eight times in NOJHL action and averaged a point-per-game scoring once and setting up seven others for the league-leading Thunderbirds.

Boman’s tally was a game-winner and his efforts helped the defending NOJHL and Dudley-Hewitt Cup champion T-Birds go 7-1 in November.

He also played defence for Team NOJHL at the recently held Eastern Canada Cup Challenge event in Cornwall, Ont., and capped his thrilling month by announcing his commitment to attend Niagara University and play NCAA D-I hockey on scholarship for the Purple Eagles program.

Boman presently sits second in offensive production among NOJHL defencemen with 27 points in 23 games on seven markers and 20 helpers.

Rayside-BalfourCanadians-No.81-BradleyChenier-HeadShotGONGSHOW GEAR ROOKIE OF THE MONTH – BRADLEY CHENIER, (F) RAYSIDE-BALFOUR CANADIANS: The 16-year-old rookie from Val Caron, Ont., piled on 20 points last month to pace all first-year players in the league.

In eight outings, Chenier notched seven markers, including a game-winner, and dished out 13 assists helping Rayside-Balfour go 6-1 when he was in the line-up.

Presently riding a five-game point streak, the Canadians forward leads all NOJHL rookies in scoring with 37 points on 15 tallies and 22 helpers while sitting 11th overall in offensive numbers among all league skaters.

Chenier was also a member of Team NOJHL during the Eastern Canada Cup Challenge in Cornwall.
