Marcouiller’s NOJHL playoff debut was a memorable one as he stood tall turning aside 51 of the 52 attempts he saw in a dramatic triple OT road triumph over Powassan Friday.

In Game 2 the 18-year-old goalkeeper from New Brighton, Minn., kept his side in it making another 27 saves before the Gold Miners eventually fell in extra time to the Voodoos.

Like Powassan’s Forrest, Marcouiller sports a playoff GAA of 1.79. He also has a solid .940 save percentage to his credit.

GARRETT FORREST, (G) POWASSAN VOODOOS – Forrest was fantastic in each of the first games for the Voodoos in their divisional semifinal series with Kirkland Lake as both contests lived up to the billing as must-see NOJHL playoff action.

The 18-year-old from Ashburn, Va., stopped all but two of the 60 shots he faced in a triple OT thriller in Game 1 vs. the Gold Miners in a narrow 2-1 setback on Friday.

One night later Forrest made 53 more stops as Powassan won 4-3 in OT to even the best-of-seven set at a game apiece.

He’ll enter Game 3 Wednesday in Kirkland Lake with a 1.79 average and a .957 save mark.

AARON MACKAY, (G) ELLIOT LAKE WILDCATS – Making his first NOJHL playoff start Thursday, Mackay was flawless stopping all 33 shots he faced in a series-opening shutout win over Rayside-Balfour on Thursday.

Two nights later the 18-year-old netminder, who hails from Millerville, Alta., has 27 more stops as the Wildcats rallied to edge the Canadians in overtime in Game 2.

Heading into Game 3 tonight at 7:30 p.m. vs. Rayside-Balfour at Centennial Arena in Elliot Lake, Mackay is now 2-0 in postseason play with a 1.98 goals-against average and a .939 save percentage.
