Kirkland Lake skates to road win over French River

NOELVILLE, Ont. – Tyler Fife scored once and helped set-up two others while Victor-Olivier handled all 14 shots he faced as the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners blanked the French River Rapids 5-0 Sunday night in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at Noelville Arena.

An early man advantage opportunity allowed the Gold Miners to get a quick jump on the Rapids as T.J. Oricchio collected his first NOJHL goal at 4:36.

It stayed 1-0 for the visitors into the second stanza when Kirkland Lake broke loose with a trio of tallies to take control of the contest.

Ashton Amaya’s sixth of the season just 15 seconds into the frame upped the Gold Miners lead early while Fife and Dayton Keith added later markers to put them up by four after two.

Kevin Ford’s team-leading seventh of 2016-17 added to the Kirkland Lake cushion two and a half minutes into the third while Coruchesne did the rest as he posted his first shutout of the year to finish things off.

Korlan Vader was peppered with 54 shots in a losing cause in net for French River.
