Kirkland Lake crowns Mattawa

KIRKLAND LAKE – Jeremy Dumont scored four times while Josh Erickson stopped all 22 shots he faced for his first Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League shutout as the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners crowned the visiting Mattawa Blackhawks 13-0 Friday at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

It was all Gold Miners in this one as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes on markers by Ryan Aubertin, Steven Babin and Dumont.

Kirkland Lake extended their cushion to 10-0 after two periods of play as they blew the contest open in the middle stanza.

Dumont and Cosimo Amore both tallied twice in the session while singles went to Charles Bruneau-Crete, Babin and Aubertin.

The home side they rounded out the romp with three more in the third with Dumont’s fourth of the night along with markers from Alexi Rivet and Tyler Romain.

Mattawa starter Joe Sheppard and Josh Horner, who entered in relief in the second period, combined to face 41 shots in a losing cause.
