Kelly’s pair paces Wildcats past Gold Miners

ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – The Elliot Lake Wildcats got a pair of goals from Brennan Kelly, including the game-winner, to help propel them to a 4-1 triumph over the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners Friday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at Centennial Arena.

Special teams allowed Elliot Lake to notch the lone tally of the opening frame as Evan Spencer scored on the power play at 15:40.

The home side added another man advantage marker to pick up the only marker of the middle stanza when Kelly supplied the eventual difference maker with 3:40 left in the session.

The Wildcats then notched their third power play goal of the contest nine minutes into the third compliments of William Bucsis.

Kirkland Lake’s Patrick Smith would finally solve Elliot Lake netminder Matt Kostiw with 9:14 remaining.

Kelly would then conclude the scoring in the late going on an empty net marker.

Brett Crook had two assists for Elliot Lake.

Shots on goal in the contest favoured the Gold Miners by a 39-32 count with Kostiw picking up the win and Ridge Gerads the loss.
