KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – The Cochrane Crunch picked up a goal and two assists from Kyle Herbster to help lead them to a 6-1 victory over the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners Saturday night in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.
Herbster started things off offensively for Cochrane, notching the night’s opening tally just past the six-minute mark of the contest.
Kirkland Lake came right back with the equalizer 92 seconds later as Tyler Fyfe’s first of the campaign levelled the proceedings during a man advantage opportunity.
It stayed 1-1 until the later stages of the middle stanza when Herbster helped feed Austin Stauffer for the eventual game-winner at 14:25.
The Crunch added one more before the frame was complete on Raymond Matawashish’s initial NOJHL goal.
Action in the third period saw the visitors put the game away late as they struck three times in the final five minutes to secure the road victory.
Josh Roberts started the offensive outburst with a shorthanded effort, which was followed by Marcus Blackned scoring into an open net at 17:12 before Michell Booth wrapped things up with a power play marker with 31 seconds to go.
Taylor Unruh made 24 saves to pick up the win for Cochrane while Ryan Winters faced 32 shots in defeat for Kirkland Lake.
