GALLERY: Hearst moves into 1st in NOJHL East after blanking Kirkland Lake

KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – Cameron Clark scored for a third straight game while also collecting a second consecutive game-winning goal as the Hearst Lumberjacks blanked the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 3-0 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League matinee Sunday afternoon at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

With the win, Hearst moves into sole possession of first place in the ever-tight NOJHL East Division standings, two points clear of now second place Cochrane and four up on Kirkland Lake.

Sunday’s match-up was a defensive struggle throughout and was scoreless after two periods of play.

The Lumberjacks finally broke the deadlock early into the final frame when Clark collected the eventual difference maker at 1:29 as he notched his 15th marker of the season.

It stayed 1-0 until the late going when Hearst tacked on two more into empty nets courtesy of Justin Miron and Bradley Golant.

Lumberjacks netminder Nicholas Tallarico did the rest in shutting out the Gold Miners as he handled all 22 shots he faced on the day to record his third shutout out the season.

Kirkland Lake starter Dawson Rodin finished by stopping 21 of 22 in suffering a narrow defeat.
