GoldMiners Making Progress

The new Executive of the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners Jr Hockey Club continues planning for the 2018-
19 season.

Our season will kick off on Saturday, September 8th when we will host the Powassan
Voodoos.

Mike Jones VP of Business Operations is very pleased with the early success of the Corporate
Fundraising Campaign. “We have a great mix of returning sponsors as well as some new companies
jumping on board” Jones says. He goes on to say “we have put together a Corporate Package but we
can also tailor a package to meet potential sponsors needs and budget.”

We’ve also begun forming partnerships with the Legion Branch 87, Community Living and we have
plans to get our players more involved in the community. Jerry Brousseau and Dennis Perrault will be
working with local groups and business and coordinating players involvement in community projects.

Tom Sinclair, Special Advisor to Executive is extremely happy with the positive meetings the club has
had with Town of Kirkland Lake staff and Council. Sinclair says “it is great to see the team Executive
and the Town on the same page…this will only make it a lot easier moving forward”.

With the League Annual General Meeting and Scheduling Meeting behind him, Derek Callahan, VP of
Hockey Operations, is busy working in tandem with Coach & GM Ryan Wood, constructing a
competitive roster. Callahan adds “we have begun to make some positive strides in the area of
thinning out and building our club”.

Billeting Coordinators Kim Roy and Carla Vine have secured about half of the homes required to
house the players. If you are interested in billeting a player you can contact them.

Special Events Chair Christine Toppi will be working on the club’s special events throughout the
season. “We hope to confirm some events in the very near future,” added Toppi.

We are also please to announce that Larry McKay has come aboard as Secretary and Isabelle
Rheaume has taken the vacant Treasurer’s position.

“Our goal is to make it fun to come to the rink again and try and develop a family atmosphere” says
Game Day Coordinator Rick Woodcock.

Media Relations Coordinator Barry Ferguson is very excited about the upcoming season and mentions
that “the Executive and Board have been working very hard since the AGM and still have a lot to do
before September but with an early start in a number of areas we will be ready…We have a solid group
of volunteers all working hard towards a successful season”.
