KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – A well-balanced attack saw the Kirkland Lake Gold Gold Miners get goals from five different skaters en route to a 5-3 win over the Cochrane Crunch in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Sunday afternoon at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

Kirkland Lake would kick off the day’s scoring near the eight-minute mark of the first period thanks to Chance DeBolt, who beat Cochrane starter Michael Nickolau, with assists going to Matthew Hill and Luciano Supino.

An early power play in the second stanza helped Cochrane tie it as Liam Boswell bagged his second tally of the season during that man advantage after being set-up by Dylan McKittrick and Antonio Balestra.

Alex McDonald’s first NOJHL goal put the Gold Miners back on top at 7:19 as he finished off a Supino feed.

Drawing level once more, Matteo Peca scored for the visitors, off a shorthanded turnover, to knot the affair at 2-2 at 13:14.

Still on the power play though, Kirkland Lake struck 30 seconds later thanks to Supino’s sixth of the season, which tied him for the team lead in goals with Nicklas Albrecht.

The hosts then went up by a pair before the second intermission with Cameron Allen extending his club’s cushion.

In the third, Boswell converted via the power play at 2:15 with his second of the day to bring the guests to within one.

Adding some insurance with 9:12 remaining, Luca Maiuri capped off the day’s scoring to secure the home ice victory.

Nicolas Alvarez made 28 saves to get the win for the Miners, with Nickolau seeing 40 shots against in defeat.
