Gold Miners sign big defenceman

The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners have added another big piece to their defensive core.

The club’s vice-president of hockey operations and associate coach Landon Lavictoire has announced the signing of Jacob Shuker. The 6-foot-2, 225-pounder is a resident of Stony Creek, Ont.

Last season, Shuker played in the Greater Metro Jr. ‘A’ Hockey League for both the St. George Ravens and the Niagara Predators. In 51 games in the GMHL last season, Shuker tallied five goals and 11 assists while collecting 67 minutes in penalties.

Lavictoire stated Shuker is a “right hand shot that will add size and big physical presence to the D core.”

He added this was a straight signing, meaning Kirkland Lake did not give up a player or player development fee to get Shuker.
