GALLERY: Early outburst sends Gold Miners past Rock

KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners picked up three first period goals and never trailed as they went on to defeat the Timmins Rock 5-1 Monday night in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

It took the Gold Miners just 103 seconds to gain the upper hand on the Rock as Quinn Schneidmiller notched his second marker of the year.

Sam Ellwood added to the Kirkland Lake cushion midway through the frame before Garett Giertuga tacked on another on the next shift to chase Rock starter Jordan Yaremchuk in favour of back-up Dylan Dallaire.

Tyler Fyfe buried his team-leading 36th 3:39 into the second stanza to put the home side up by four before Jun Yi Zhong put Timmins on the board a minute and a half later.

Jake Semmens added one more for the Gold Miners 15 minutes into the session in what turned out to be the final goal of the evening.

Declan Carter chipped in with two assists for Kirkland Lake in the triumph.

Cade McEwen recorded the win for the Gold Miners making 25 saves.

Yaremchuk suffered the loss for the Rock allowing the three against on nine shots while Dallaire turned aside 23 of 25 in nearly 50 minutes of relief.
