SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Soo Eagles forward Nick Techel tacked on two tallies while Kobe Keller dished out three assists as the Soo Eagles rallied to double up the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 4-2 Saturday night in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at Pullar Stadium.
Kirkland Lake collected the lone goal of the first period on Marshal Nikitin effort at 13:38.
The Gold Miners then went up by two midway through the contest thanks to Gregory Trudeau-Paquet’s first as a member of his new club.
Sault Ste. Marie started their rally with 7:38 left in the middle frame on Techel’s initial marker of the night.
Down a man early in the third, the Eagles would strike shorthanded to level the proceedings on Kellen Tharaldson’s fifth of the season at 3:47.
The Soo kept coming and got the eventual game-winner off the stick of George Orfanos a couple shifts later before completing the comeback with an empty netter from Techel, in the final minute, to round out the scoring.
Mikey Butcher chipped in with a couple of assists to boost the Eagles offensively.
Carter McPhail made 26 saves to register the win for the Soo while Ryan Winter faced 36 shots in a losing cause for Kirkland Lake.
